Get it done, why don't you
Monday June 8, 2009 | RandomMy class is wrapping up. I’d say it was a success – even though it was my first opportunity to teach the Advanced half, the students seemed to pick up on it well.
I still have to finish marking final projects, assemble all of my materials, and do some invoicing. However, overall I believe I’m on track.
I also am writing a guide for new-to-developing developers about things like hosting, domain name purchasing, content management systems, contracting, and so on. I think I’m going to write my guide as something for me to add to my future site redevelopment, and just link my students to that – considering it’s not officially part of the material, that should be fair.
I assumed I’d have a bit of a lull – not so. The comic con geared straight back up lately. I’ve got cards, business cards, stickers, and a few guides to start on. I’ll do the best I can.
At work, everything’s going fairly well. My current project is on track – it’s just a matter of pulling the right stories in the right way.
I really want to sit down and write a content management system to specifically work in a way I always wanted, but could never find. Fairly simple – needs to write to some databases for comments, do a bit of AJAX updating on a ratings system, and have a nice backend for upload and tagging. It would be mostly for my use – but hey, I might release it later. It’s not too hard by any means… but it’s a challenge for me.
After modifying a BIOS thingy and doing a memory check, it appears the new computer is fixed. It needs a name now, since it’s really no longer Timothy, just built with a few of Timothy’s parts. I’ve narrowed it down to either Toby or Sergei. I think I need to work with it a bit more to pick one or the other.
I want to purchase an HD video camera and a PS3. These purchases will have to wait a bit until my finances calm down a little, but they add up to less than $1k together. The PS3 is going to primarily be a media centre, and the video camera is so I can start doing more motion graphics and possibly even some compositing.
I’ve been feeling really, really worn out for several days now. I suspect it’s the weather, but I’m not sure. It might be a residual effect of ending teaching.
Maybe I’ll take a break soon and just work on getting everything sorted and in order in what I’m gradually beginning to accept is my life. Maybe not.
One thing is for certain: I have a lot of work to do. Wish me luck.

Good Luck!
Thanks for continuing to post here. It gives me something to read on these dreary work mornings.
