Comic con process complete; recommencing course process

The Central Canada Comic Con 2009 site is done finally.

More or less, anyway. It still needs real content, and I’d like to set up a CSS rollover for the top menu instead of having an image swap.
However, overall I’d say it’s a moderately good build.

The only compromises:

  • I had to have a bit of head CSS because of one of my Textpattern plugins, the banner up top is randomly pulled from a group of images (there’s only one there right now though) and that can only be accomplished in page templates and not CSS.
  • Still no forum, but that’s their call as to whether they want me to transfer over the old one or start a new one.
  • Tiny tiny little problem with the drop shadow near the top because I just don’t want to deal with background PNGs in IE6.
  • I advised against that domain name, but it was already registered so we’re using it. That’s all I’m going to say on that.

Comic con websites are a funny bunch. For a group that has such a technology tie-in, the sites usually… suck. They’re awfully built, awful to use, and completely user-unfriendly. I tried to make a really good one to contrast the dreadful bunch that’s out there for both Winnipeg websites and comic con websites, and I think I made a reasonable compromise.

Plus, this site has the advantage of a complete CMS backend and I have control over it. That’s one thing I wasn’t permitted to have until this year, so it made my life a lot easier.

The comic con is now the second-largest one in Canada. That’s a pretty neat deal, I guess.

Plus: Adam West. I’m no celebrity follower, but having a man who’s known for just how weird he is across the globe coming here is kind of neato.

  1. The card did not lie. You do make pretty things.
