Loose lips sink descenders

Ladies and gentlemen:
What typeface was used for the logo for the television show Lipstick Jungle?

I only ask because I’ve been seeing posters for this show in bus shacks and on bus advertising, and… at first, I thought someone had actually downloaded Simplex Verbatim 243 Medium.

Lipstick Jungle vs. Simplex Verbatim 243

Here’s a comparison shot. The top is SV243, the bottom is the actual logo. I know they’re not pixel-perfect, but they’re still eerily shaped and sized similarly.

So: was this a custom typeface made for the show, or did the creator and I just come up with something so creepily similar?

There’s this strange phenomenon I’ve noticed (that may tie in to steam engine time) where people come up with similar ideas to preexisting concepts without ever seeing the original or knowing it exists. I want to know if there’s any chance I’ve ever run across this typographer’s work, or if we just were on the same wavelength at around the same time.
