Bus Denizen of the Day: the Seat Wiper

Sunday July 13, 2008 | Random

This woman lives on the other side of my neighborhood. She is moderately well dressed and middle aged for sure, and doesn’t look to be unhealthy in any way – mind or body.

Every morning when she gets on the bus, she takes out a Kleenex, folds it twice, and begins wiping down the seat. She wipes, and wipes, and wipes – top, sides, fabric, plastic. Then, strangely enough, she flips the Kleenex over so the part she was using to wipe is now in full contact with her hand and repeats the wiping process.

Perhaps she had a wet seat incident, and never wants to repeat it. That’s the only way I can theorize someone would want to absolve someplace they sat with a pantsed bottom of any germs, yet then let their bare hands come into contact with the wiping instrument with no issue.

I’ve even seen her cough and touch her face with the same hand/Kleenex.

This woman really does baffle me.

  1. Reading your blog for the last few months,These bus stories are killing me! I would buy the comic in a heartbeat
